Simon Le Ruez was born in Jersey CI and lives in Sheffield, UK and Berlin, Germany. His practice blurs the divisions between a number of mediums however he remains most clearly defined as a sculptor and installation artist. He has exhibited widely internationally with recent solo and group exhibitions in The Netherlands, Mexico, Russia, France, Iceland, Germany, England, and the USA.

After undergraduate study in London Le Ruez obtained an MA in Sculpture from Winchester School of Art (1995). A period developing his practice back in London followed, after which he moved north to Sheffield as a means of devoting more time to his work. In recent years, in addition to his individual practice, his work has developed to embrace collaboration, most notably with the artist Maud Haya Baviera in the making of video works. His third solo exhibition with Vane Gallery, UK ‘The other side of you and me’ opened in April 2015 following ‘This is where we meet’ in 2011 and ‘When the Quarry Calls’ in 2007. In 2012 he was commissioned by the Northern Art Prize and Logistik to make a work for the public realm, the resulting piece was exhibited in Central London during the time of the London Olympics and now belongs in a private collection. In 2009 he was nominated for the Northern Art Prize and was the overall winner of Cube open in Manchester which resulted in an exhibition of new work and the invitation of a solo exhibition and residency at Cube Gallery the following year. In 2010 Le Ruez was selected to undertake an eight-month artist residency on the prestigious international studio programme at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. The residency culminated with a solo exhibition across three gallery spaces and served to affirm his creative and personal relationship with the German city.
